Why kids are dropping out from school? The Action Needed

Recently, there was an article in TOI mentioning that there has been a increase in the school drop outs for kids in India.

The reasons are simple, the majority of the kids still go to the government schools and the conditions of these schools are not favorable for studies. The environment is not very friendly and cleanliness and hygiene takes a back seat.
Many of these school run under the state government does not even have proper toilets which has been one of the main reasons for kids dropping out from school specially girls.

Many of the drop outs kids are those who have been admitted to the school by some NGOs under RTE but did not follow up with them. These kids may not leave because of the hygiene but due to some other reasons such as their parents were not strict, lack of transportation, feeling of inferiority compared to other kids in the same school, lack of resources etc. Hence NGOs should not only admit the kids to school but also monitor them at least for some period of time.

It sounds strange that the school authorities are not able to improve the standards of the toilets even when the number of toilets are very less or due to some reasons they think it is not important.

Now how can you and me as an individual/group can help in this cause. Let's visit one government school which is nearest to our place and analyze the situation. Taking help from a known NGO will help as the visit will look more purposeful and school authorities will take you more seriously. Make a group of 5-6 youngsters and then visit to give more impact, see the toilet's condition and if you think that you as a citizen of India should help in this cause then go for it. Try to raise some money, put the case forward to some powerful politician or organization or social groups and improve the toilet condition to some extent.

Narendra Modi requested corporate to help in this cause and within mins, companies were ready to spend Rs.200 crores for this initiative to improve toilets in government schools. But if we as a small group plan to improve condition of toilets in at least one school, I guess we can contribute to reduce this number of school drop outs. This will in turn bring more prosperity to our nation.

Please do think and see if you can plan for this. For any guidance or how to plan for it, please reply to me.

The change is inevitable.

I Am Privileged

"I am disgusted", Rohan screams in the room on a Friday evening. Fellow room-mate comes running in the room and saw Rohan frustrated and talking on phone. He waited for the conversation to get over and then gently asked Rohan, "brother, what is the problem? Why are you so upset?". It was like Rohan's roommate re-ignited the fire which was about to shut down and then it burnt the whole night. Rohan was upset on his annual appraisal which was not as expected. The whole night was spent drinking an expensive whisky.  Mira, a 25 year old girl is upset as most of her friends are getting settled in foreign countries and she is still in India. She has stopped visiting Facebook as it was demotivating for her to see all her friends getting married or visiting Europe. Most of the weekends, she spent time on her iphone x or shopping online.  Arjun was smoking the third cigarette because he realized that one of his college mate is earning more than him whereas he was be...

ISR: Individual Social Responsibility

We all must have heard about government responsibilities of social welfare, policies for BPL communities, upliftment of marginalized communities etc. We also discuss about the responsibilities of bureaucrats, MLAs, MPs, local corporators, and other government units to ensure the wellbeing of people. All these units form the government system, and it is part of their job to plan, implement and maintain schemes of social welfare. In addition to this, in the last few decades, our country has witnessed the growth of non-government organizations and charitable trusts focussing on different social sectors and helping government to implement policies in remote areas. These NGOs also help in spreading awareness and reaching to right beneficiaries. Our country has seen some great success stories by NGOs, and they play a pivotal role in community development. In 2013, CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) was introduced in companies act so that corporates can give back to society. This clause ha...

The Saturday Curse

It was a Saturday afternoon and Poonam & Amit were on the way to their hometown Meerut and were about to board bus from Vaishali metro station, Ghaziabad. Suddenly, one child of age nearly 10 years came to them in worn out clothes, carrying a small bucket and small portrait of Lord Shani dipped in mustard oil. Both of them were aware of the purpose as they have been witnessing this since birth. Amit was reluctant to give any money to the kid, but Poonam mentioned that "aisa nahin karte, yeh shani daan hain. Agar thode paise shani bhagwan ke name pe de doge to kya ho jayega, isse punya milta hain" (please don't deny this charity as this is for Lord Shani, rather it will bring good blessings for us). Eventually, Amit agreed and dropped Rs.1 coin in the bucket. On the way to board the bus, Amit saw more than 10 such buckets kept on the stairs of the metro station. Each bucket belonged to a different child but may be belonging to the same contractor.  In our countr...
